Straight From Spain, LLC, a California limited liability company doing business as Straight From Spain Academy ("SFS Academy," "we," "us"), runs straightfromspain.com and offers online and in-person Spanish classes. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

 

01  Information we collect

• Contact details: name, email address, phone number, city/state and time zone.

• Student details: the student's name, age or grade, Spanish level, learning goals and availability. For students under 18, a parent or guardian provides this information.

• Learning records: placement-quiz answers and results, class notes, homework, and progress feedback.

• Class recordings: we record a class only with permission from the student, or from the parent or guardian for a student under 18. Recordings are shared only with that student or family and used only for their learning, and we delete them on request.

• Account and booking data: student-portal login, plans purchased, class bookings and cancellations, and loyalty ("Estrellas") points.

• Payment data: plan purchases, invoices and payment confirmations. Card payments are handled by our payment processors; we do not store full card numbers. Zelle payments go directly to our business bank account.

• Messages: what you send us by email, text, website chat, contact forms or lead platforms such as Thumbtack.

• Website data: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and cookies (see section 05).

 

02  How we use it

• To schedule, teach and personalize classes and prepare learning materials.

• To manage plans, bookings, payments, the student portal and loyalty rewards.

• To answer questions and send class reminders, links and notes.

• To send newsletters and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

• To improve our website and services, keep records, and meet legal obligations.

 

03  How we share it

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers that help us run the academy, such as Wix (website, bookings, student portal, CRM, loyalty), Google Workspace and Google Classroom (email and materials), Zoom (online classes), Mailchimp (newsletters), Google Analytics and Google Ads (website analytics and advertising), Meta (Facebook and Instagram advertising), and payment processors. They may use the data only to provide their services to us.

• Our teachers, who receive the details they need to teach their students.

• Authorities, when required by law or to protect rights and safety.

• A buyer or successor, if the business is sold or reorganized.

 

04  Children's privacy

We teach children, but our services are purchased and managed by parents or guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Parents may review, correct or ask us to delete their child's information at any time by contacting us. If we learn we collected a child's information without consent, we will delete it.

 

05  Cookies

Our website, hosted on Wix, uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, remember preferences and measure traffic. You can manage cookies through our cookie banner or your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works. Our site does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.

 

06  Data retention and security

We keep personal information while you are a student or lead and as long as needed for records, taxes and legal purposes, then delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online system is completely secure.

 

07  Your choices and rights

• Ask to see, correct or delete your information.

• Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

• California residents: you may ask whether we shared personal information with third parties for their direct marketing (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83). We do not share it for that purpose.

08  International users

We are based in the United States and some of our teachers are located in Spain and other countries. By using our services, you understand your information may be processed outside your country.

 

09  Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
